Unrooted cutting of Hoya carnosa 'Freckles' (variegated).
One node.
One or two leaves.
Hoya carnosa 'Freckles' (Variegated) is a striking collector Hoya combining the silver-speckled character associated with 'Freckles' with irregular inner variegation.
The leaves can develop a mix of dark green, pale green, yellow, cream, and silver. Variegation is usually concentrated toward the center of the leaf, while darker green remains around the margins. Silver flecking and splash may appear across both the green and lighter areas, giving every leaf its own pattern.
The amount of variegation can vary considerably. Some leaves may remain mostly green with subtle lighter markings, while others develop broad yellow-to-cream centers. New growth may also emerge in warmer yellow or bronze tones before hardening.
The name 'Freckles' has a surprisingly long horticultural history. It was published by Loyce Andrews in 1977 for a Hoya described as having large, rounded leaves freckled with silver and pink flowers. However, the International Cultivar Registration Authority for Hoya currently considers the historical name 'Freckles' questionable and undetermined because the original description is not detailed enough to connect it confidently with one unique clone.
The Variegated form circulating today appears to be a later horticultural selection or mutation associated with plants sold as Hoya carnosa 'Freckles'. We have not found documentation establishing when, where, or by whom this variegated form originated.
Botanical background: Hoya carnosa
Name in cultivation: 'Freckles' (Variegated)
Historical 'Freckles' name first published: 1977
Notable features: Variable inner yellow-to-cream variegation combined with silver freckling and splash
Please note that the amount, placement, and color of both the variegation and silver markings can vary considerably from leaf to leaf. Future growth may be greener or more heavily variegated, and its exact appearance cannot be guaranteed.
A note about this plant: The cultivar history, naming, and horticultural information above was gathered from published cultivar records and publicly available online sources. The historical name 'Freckles' cannot currently be linked with certainty to one unique cultivar, and we have not found original breeder or mutation documentation for the modern Variegated form. We therefore cannot independently confirm or deny its complete cultivar history.
Size of the cutting
Cuttings are one node by default, unless otherwise stated. Some may have additional nodes/growth points depending on propagation time, but most will be single-node due to high demand on certain varieties. More about the size here.
Preparation Time
Most of the cuttings are pre-rooted. This ensures that the plant material is in optimal condition for transit and subsequent planting.
Appearance
Hoyas are often sold as single-node cuttings. Photos are provided to show the general appearance of the plant's foliage and may not represent the exact cutting you’ll receive. When available, details about cutting length are included in the product description. More on type on the cutting info here.
Note
The photos are provided to show the plant’s foliage more clearly—please note that we’re selling a one-node cutting by default.
