Hoya kaikoeana 'Silver' is a striking silver-selected form of Hoya kaikoeana, a recently described Hoya species native to Borneo.

Its long, narrow and succulent leaves can develop extensive silver coloration over the surface, contrasting beautifully with the remaining green areas and darker venation. The amount and pattern of silver varies from leaf to leaf, making each new leaf slightly different.

Hoya kaikoeana was formally described in 2022 from plants collected in lowland heath forest in West Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo. The species is an epiphytic climber with slender stems and elongated lance-shaped leaves that can reach approximately 15–20 cm in length.

New foliage may emerge in deep maroon or reddish tones, and mature leaves can also develop warmer coloration when exposed to brighter light.

Mature Hoya kaikoeana produces small umbels of approximately 6–10 unusual flowers. The reflexed corolla may range from yellow and orange to reddish tones, with a contrasting white, pink or red corona.

The 'Silver' form is grown for substantially increased silver coverage compared with the typical green form of the species.

A note about this plant: Hoya kaikoeana was formally published under that spelling in 2022, although Plants of the World Online at Kew currently lists the species as Hoya kaikoana. The designation 'Silver' is used horticulturally for heavily silvered material circulating in cultivation. We have not located documentation establishing 'Silver' as a formally registered cultivar, so the name is retained here as the horticultural designation under which this clone was received.
