Hoya AH 'Ceereen'

Hoya AH ‘Ceereen’ is a collector Hoya distributed by AH Hoya Nursery in Thailand. Its parentage and species background do not appear to have been publicly documented, and it is therefore best maintained under the name under which it has circulated in cultivation: AH ‘Ceereen’.

The foliage is the main attraction of this plant. Mature leaves can become quite large and substantial, with a broad shape, thick texture, and a noticeably quilted or pillowy surface. A deeply impressed central vein gives the leaves additional structure, while varying amounts of fine silver splash may appear across the green surface.

Ceereen is also particularly attractive when grown in brighter light. The leaves can develop warm reddish to burgundy coloration, especially around the margins, creating the dark contrasting “eyeliner” effect for which this clone is sometimes appreciated by collectors. The intensity of this coloration depends on growing conditions and should not be expected to remain identical from leaf to leaf.

Unlike a formally described Hoya species, Ceereen does not currently have a published botanical description that provides a type locality, native distribution, type specimen, or diagnostic measurements. I have also not found a reliable primary source documenting its parentage.

AH Hoya continues to list Ceereen in its commercial Hoya catalogue, supporting its association with the nursery and the spelling “Ceereen.” It is also circulated by specialist Hoya growers and nurseries under the names Hoya ‘Ceereen’ and Hoya AH ‘Ceereen’.

A note about this plant: Unlike formally described Hoya species, AH ‘Ceereen’ is a cultivated collector plant for which very little primary documentation appears to be publicly available. AH Hoya lists Ceereen in its catalogue, but I have not found reliable published information establishing its parentage, species background, or the circumstances of its origin. For that reason, we preserve the AH ‘Ceereen’ name and do not assign undocumented parentage or species identity to our plant.
