Unrooted cutting of Hoya sp. VL9 (Variegated).
Two to three nodes.

Hoya sp. VL9 (Variegated) is an unidentified collector Hoya known for its unusually colorful and highly variable foliage.

The leaves are thick and substantial, generally oval to slightly elongated, with variegation appearing in an unpredictable mix of green, lime, yellow, cream, and lighter marbled areas. Some leaves may remain mostly green with subtle variegation, while others can develop much broader pale sectors. Under certain growing conditions, new or highly variegated foliage may also show soft pink or warm-toned coloration.

The irregular pattern is one of the things that makes this plant especially interesting — there is no single “correct” VL9 leaf. A mature plant may carry several noticeably different-looking leaves at the same time.

VL9 has circulated among Hoya collectors for many years. Online horticultural records show Hoya sp. VL9 in cultivation at least as far back as 2012, but we have not found reliable documentation explaining what the VL designation originally represents, who collected the plant, or its exact botanical identity.

Several collector records have historically associated VL9 with other accession-style plants in the Hoya sigillatis group, but those identities are not documented well enough for us to rename the plant. We therefore retain the Hoya sp. VL9 designation under which this clone is established in cultivation.

Name in cultivation: Hoya sp. VL9
Form: Variegated
Species identification: Undetermined
Notable features: Thick foliage with highly variable green, lime, yellow, cream, and marbled variegation

Please note that the amount, placement, and color of the variegation can change considerably from leaf to leaf. Future growth may be greener or more heavily variegated, and its exact appearance cannot be guaranteed.

A note about this plant: The naming, identity, history, and horticultural characteristics above were gathered from publicly available online sources. We have not found original collection, accession, breeder, or botanical identification documentation explaining the VL9 designation or conclusively identifying this plant to species. We therefore retain the name under which it circulates in cultivation and cannot independently confirm or deny its complete provenance.

Size of the cutting

Cuttings are one node by default, unless otherwise stated. Some may have additional nodes/growth points depending on propagation time, but most will be single-node due to high demand on certain varieties. More about the size here.

Preparation Time

Most of the cuttings are pre-rooted. This ensures that the plant material is in optimal condition for transit and subsequent planting.

Appearance

Hoyas are often sold as single-node cuttings. Photos are provided to show the general appearance of the plant's foliage and may not represent the exact cutting you’ll receive. When available, details about cutting length are included in the product description. More on type on the cutting info here.

Note

The photos are provided to show the plant’s foliage more clearly—please note that we’re selling a one-node cutting by default.
