The honest truth
We’ve mentally wrestled with this for weeks: how do we keep winter shipping simple and safe while also keeping you happy? Some things can’t happen at the same time—and after a lot of thinking, chats with other growers, and a flashback to last winter’s Delayed Horror, we’re choosing clarity over chaos.
The plan (for now)

Cold states: We’re pausing plant shipping to cold-weather states until it’s safe to resume. No exceptions. Accessories still ship nationwide.

Cooler states (around 40–50°F): Your plant order will include insulation + a 72/96-hour heat pack by default.

Your choice, your risk level:

If the weather does not look safe where you are, it’s perfectly okay to hold off on buying. Delays happen, and they’re stressful for everyone. We are here to stay, and we will see you in Spring!

If you do purchase, please add a Shipment Upgrade at checkout. If the package arrives on time and the plant doesn’t survive, we’ll refund the plant price and upgrade (standard shipping not included).

We’d rather be strict than sorry. This approach keeps losses low, prices fair, and plants safer.
Stay in the loop (Newsletter)
I send a short (maybe not that short but to the point) newsletter a couple times a month with:
current shipping status and weather notes,
answers to common questions,
what’s growing and what’s coming next,
- next restock dates, etc.
It’s the easiest way to catch changes quickly.
What’s happening at HC HQ

Two overseas imports are on the way. We’re triple-checking paperwork and timing—fingers crossed everything lands safe and sound.

We’re also working on collabs with excellent plant-adjacent brands (soil, mixes, useful accessories, fertilizers). You’ll start seeing more practical, plant-related goodies in the shop.
About pricing & value
We’ve negotiated great deals (no politics involved) — our prices will be the same as (or lower than) the brands’ when possible. If you try something, tell us how it went. Your feedback helps us curate only the best for everyone.

Quick FAQ
Why not ship “at my risk”?
Because “at my risk” often becomes a heartache for both sides when delays hit. Blocking cold states and simplifying rules keep plants safer and expectations clear.
Does standard shipment get a live-arrival guarantee?
Not in winter. You’ll still get insulation and a heat pack, but LAG applies only with a Shipment Upgrade and on-time delivery. Please read our shipping policies.
What if the weather changes after I order?
We’ll reach out and either hold the order (😔) or cancel and refund the plant(s)—your choice. Accessories ship as usual.
A final note
Thank you for trusting us with your plants—and for understanding why winter needs extra care. This plan is our best balance of safety and fairness right now. We’ll keep refining as the season goes on.
